'Renegade' Bus first to arrive at Astrodome

Friday, September 02, 2005

Houston Police confirmed that the first busload of refugees to arrive at the Houston Astrodome, was in fact a 'renegade' bus, and not part of the convoy that was due to start arriving from the Louisiana Superdome.

Officials quickly grew concerned when the bus arrived more than 2 hours earlier than the first buses were due to begin arriving at the Houston Astrodome, and was being driven by a 20 year old.

Many passengers told reporters that they were indeed not even at the Superdome, but rather were hitchiking along the interstate, and saw the bus as opportunity.

Almost all of the refugees were very distraught and tired, and many were almost to the point of being incoherant.

Houston Police at first did not allow the refugees into the Astrodome, but after a while, they were allowed entry, and officials on hand from both FEMA and the American Red Cross stated that even though they only had resources available for refugees from the Superdome, all these 'renegade refugees' would be allowed inside and would be given assistance.
